Oh The Weather Outside Is Frightful

Oh the weather outside if frightful.....
Well it will be later today, December 23 to be exact. Its gong to rain like mad, 25mm or a so , now it that was to be snow I would be getting real excited, that would be another 25cm or more, just what we need before Christmas. The rain I could leave, just makes things wet and cold, I'd rather have the snow.
Much to my wife's chagrins I like winter,(she would rather have warm sand). You see there is a special magic to seeing the snow pile up, and yes I know it messes up the roads and you have to clear it off you driveway, but to see so much white and clean snow on the landscape, it touches something deep in side of me. Hey I live in Canada, in Ottawa, the winter of 70-71 we got over 435cm , I can remember the snow being higher than the house, or is that because I was much younger and shorter?
I just like the having a white Christmas, it just puts me in the right mood. Yes I have had to deal with green Christmases in the past, made me feel sorry for the kids that want to go play in the snow on Christmas day.
Nope just give me a plain old white Christmas, I don't think I could handle living in a place that didn't have snow for the holidays, it just doesn't seam right.
But people do live in places that have never seen snow , hey its summer south of the equator! I guess they can play golf , or run around in shorts, different perspectives I guess.
Perhaps some day I'll take off to Alice Springs for Christmas , just to see what it like to be in a land that has never seen snow, I think it would be good for my perspective .As long as I can be with the people I love.
I have never had to spend the Holidays away from my family, I have been very lucky that way.
So here's hoping that you get to spend Christmas where you want to be and with who you want to be with, snow or no snow.

A Chat with Seth

So I just got off of a Skype call with Seth Harwood, author of Jack Wakes Up , This Is Life and a short story collection A Long Way From Disney.
First off it was really cool that he took the time to give me an interview about writing and how a story comes together for him. I would have like to have chatted longer but he had to take his dog for a walk, it you have a dog you know how demanding they can be not to mention the fact that you don't want the dog to have a accident while he was waiting for you to get your act in gear.
Any how now I have this nice audio file to edit and but in my next show, I think it will work out nicely.
Seth is a guy that you would like to have a pint with and shoot the breeze, I think I'll just have to got out west buy him that beer.
So do your self a favor and hear over to www.sethharwood.com and check out his podcasts, you wont be disappointed!

You have no right to complain!

You have no right to complain if you don't vote!
Ya it drives me nuts when people whine and bitch about the government and they don't participate in the voting processes!
So get you but in gear and go vote, I will be on my honey moon when its voting day , so I will be casting my vote at an advance poll to gets my two cents in!

Ok I feel much better now!

Big yellow toys!

Well I do have to kick my self in the ass, why? Go ahead ask, I'll wait.............
(Go ahead ask!)................................
I got to play with one of these, and I didn't have a camera, and I didn't have my recorder!
AAAAGGGGHHHHHHHH!
(Sound of head banging on table)
Sigh...
We were up in Lanark today , had to go to church and meet the minister, and take my future in laws out to lunch, to celebrate there 57th wedding anniversary , pretty cool eh! I hope I can last half that time.
So any how we did a bunch of running around stuff to do for the wedding, and we ended up at my future missus' cousin's (who is making her wedding dress). This cousin has a gravel pit, so, since I can't see the dress before the day, I got to go play in the pit with her son and a BIG Volvo loader.
It was fun , but I now know why the guys that drive these things get paid what they do.
Easy to drive but hard to do right, you really need a light touch.
I just wish I had my recorder!
Could have made a great show!
That will teach me a lesson.
Always have your equipment with you !

There's a raptor on my head!

The photo , (a rather good self portrait I think) is of me and my new friend Woody, he's a Harris hawk, and part of the Canadian Raptor Conservatory's birds of prey show, that took place last weekend (Aug 10 ) at the Perth Garlic Festival, lots of fun and lots of garlic, dam I love that stuff.
I even picked up garlic chocolate fudge! Yumm! I kid you not it was really good , had chile peppers in it to give it a kick, Fantastic!

You know a lot of people I know would turn their nose up at something like that , my self I usually give it a go, hey you never know!
Life's lesson here? Give it a try you never know, thats how I found out I like garlic ice cream!

Dodged the bullet on that one!

Well ,now , I guess I did dodge the bullet on that one!
Let me explane.
This past Sunday I went to church, not just any church but the one I will be getting married in .
Other than weddings and funereal, this is only the second time in the last five years that I was in a church for a Sunday service.
I am not a regular.
You see I have to go meet the minister that will be marring us, as I am an atheist, I was a bit nervous.
As it was not out side the realm of possibility that she could refuse to marry us , sounds silly but that is her right.
Well all seamed to be going well until I was asked if I believed in god, I thought I was screwed .
Well I told her I was not sure about a supreme power .
We chatted a bit , I wont bore you with the details, but what she said was pretty cool.
"If God Wants you he will find you and give you faith."
I love no pressure sales!
Made my day!
I have to say she is a very cool and understanding minister, I think I could have some fun talks with her.
Its funny how a little bit of respect goes a long way.
Well that one more thing checked off the wedding to do list, and only 90 days to do !

God is watching!

Well today should prove to be an interesting day, I get to meet the minster that will be marring me and my girl. I will be on my best behavior, I will be respectful of her option , I just hope that she will be as respectful of my option . You see I am an atheist , I have a rant on god and logic that I will post at a later date, but today just might be an interesting day!

So I Have a Blog?

So I have a blog, so what?
I'm not really sure just how many blogs there are out there, probably a few million, with topics as diverse as how to clean a cat litter box to that latest Hollywood gossip, with a few about politics through in for good measure.
So what my point?
Nothing really, this will be a place where I can put down thoughts and ideas as well as any ramblings that may come my way.
So why should read this?
No reason, I hope you might find what I say interesting, funny , sad , inspiring or whatever.
After all its just words and ideas, what harm can they do?
